Founded in 1535, Lima once ranked as the richest and most important city in the Americas and was nicknamed ‘The City of Kings’ (a description that many long stay male guests of The Point still consider as valid…). The capital city of Peru expanded rapidly in the last century. Today it is the continent’s fourth largest metropolis, providing shelter to almost one third of the countries population: 8 million Peruvian souls call Lima ‘home’. Lima is also becoming more and more an important entry and exit point to Latin America. Don’t rush out of town immediately; there is loads of stuff to do in the capital of Peru!
In Barranco, our beautiful neighbourhood, artists, sculptures, poets and free thinkers of all kinds have guided its spirit throughout the years, deservedly earning Barranco its reputation as the bohemian and artistic center of Lima. It is a district in which 75% of all buildings have been recognized as Peruvian Cultural Heritage.
Lima is a fascinating city, offering up old Spanish architecture, some noteworthy museums, beach n’ surf, never ending shopping options, a vibrant nightlife and an enchanting atmosphere with many contrasts. Moreover, you don’t have to go far out of town to find Peru’s stunning countryside and coastline. Our beloved Lima is a typical example of a place that at first sight might look rather unattractive, but like more and more people discover these days: if you give it some more time than a few days you start to like it, get a feel for it and in the end you even admit that you never want to leave! Understanding Lima is the key to the heart of Peru.
